NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ –The Rowan University women’s swimming and diving team finished one day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday. The three day championships are being held at Rutgers University.
Christie Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Pine Crest School (FL)) took second in the 50 free with a school record time of 23.55. Her time was better than the NCAA B cut of 23.97. In the prelims, Raleigh swam 23.74, which broke the University mark of 23.76 that she set in January.
The 200 freestyle relay finished fourth with a season best of 1:38.48. The relay consisted of Gigi Russo (fr. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.), Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit), Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and Raleigh. They swam 1:38.75 in the prelims. The 400 medley relay had a seventh place with Raleigh, Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Gustafson and Russo. They had a time of 4:05.83, which was a season best.
In the three meter diving, Samantha Rottkamp (sr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) totaled 434.50 points for third place. Kylie O’Rourke (jr. N. Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) finished seventh (349.00 points) followed by Catherine Anzano (jr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) eighth (334.80 points). Russo came in fourth (24.25) in the 50 free. Stearns took 17th place (25.03) and Leanne Zaug (fr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) was 20th (26.13).
Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) had a sixth place (5:12.67) in the 500 freestyle. Gustafson finished 15th (2:17.01) in the 200 individual medley while Grajek and Casey Sickler (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) were 20th (2:19.13) and 24th (2:24.26) respectively.
