GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s basketball team defeated Penn State Brandywine, 91-77 on the second day of the Rohrer College of Business Classic on Saturday. The Profs hosted the two-day classic.
Rowan has an 8-1 record while Penn State Brandywine is 5-3 on the season. Prior on Saturday, Berkeley College had a 78-74 victory over Rutgers-Camden. On Friday night, Penn State Brandywine won, 96-81 against Rutgers-Camden and Rowan defeated Berkeley, 92-76.
The Profs had five players that scored in double figures. Guard Jason Rosenberg (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) scored a career-high 19 points and dished nine assists. Forward Brendan Cox (sr. Lindenwold, NJ/Highland Reg.) totaled 15 points and tied his career mark with 16 rebounds. Guard Rich McNamara (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) contributed with 15 points and eight boards. Guard Phil Jackson (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) chipped in with 13 points and guard Kendall White (sr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) added 11.
Rosenberg, Cox and McNamara were all named to the All-Classic Team. They were joined by guard Rasheed Wilkins and forward Dan Robinson from Penn State Brandywine and guard Gary Williams from Berkeley.
Wilkins recorded a game-high 26 points for the Lions. He also had six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Robinson collected 10 boards along with seven points. Guard Brandon Jacquette tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
Penn State Brandywine started the first half with three straight baskets. Forward Learon Pray (19:21), Wilkins (18:47) and Robinson (18:28) each had one. Rowan pulled within one point
(9-8) after a three-pointer by forward Matt Whitworth (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City). Wilkins’ jumper made the score 11-8 at 15:24. The Profs had a 9-0 spurt to take the lead (17-11) with 13:21 remaining. Rosenberg had the go ahead basket at 14:20 (12-11) and he had the last one (13:21) in the run. His three-pointer at 10:04 put the Profs ahead by seven (23-16). Wilkins hit a jump shot (7:56) and the Lions trailed by seven (27-20). Rosenberg followed with a foul shot (7:47) and a three (7:25) for an 11 point advantage (31-20). White had a basket at 6:53, which made the score 33-21.
Penn State Brandwine was down by eight points (33-25) after a layup by forward Mahamane Toure. Wilkins sank two free throws (1:35) to pull within seven (38-31). Rowan ended the period with 10 straight points for a 17 point lead (48-31). Rosenberg led all scorers with 15 points while Wilkins totaled 12.
In the second stanza, Jackson sank two free throws for a 21 point advantage (74-53) at 10:56. He nailed a three at 9:21, which made the score 77-55. Penn State followed with seven straight points and trailed by 15 (77-62) with 6:58 left. Guard Kevin Bonnes contributed with three points while guard Khalif Deane and Pray each had two. Jackson’s layup with 5:31 on the clock put the Profs up by 21 (83-62). Cox’s basket at 3:30 made the score 89-68. The Lions ended the game with a 9-2 run. Guard/forward Pat McGee (2:08), guard Kris Cassidy (1:39) and guard/forward Brian Sarcinello (:38) each had a three-pointer. Wilkins produced 14 points in the second half. Cox totaled 11 points and 12 rebounds while McNamara scored 10.
