SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University women’s swim team won the Swarthmore College Invitational. The Profs collected 1185 points over the two-day event that included six teams.
In the morning session on Saturday, Rowan was the winner in the 200 medley (1:54.33) and 800 freestyle (8:18.64) relays. Lindsey Raleigh (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.), Olivia Wojtowicz (fr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s County), Teresa Stearns (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Gigi Russo (so. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.) were on the medley relay. The freestyle relay consisted of Olivia Graham (fr. Montclair, NJ/Montclair), Allison Schneider (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), Russo and Adrienne Bush (jr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake).
Schneider captured first places in the 400 individual medley (4:46.36) and 1650 freestyle (17:56.99). Graham was the winner (2:01.16) in the 200 free while Kelly Gallagher (fr. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.) came in first (1:02.58) in the 100 backstroke. Abby Grasso (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) finished first (1:02.83) in the 100 butterfly. Bush took second (4:51.91) in the 400 individual medley and was fourth (18:52.84) in the 1650 freesytyle. Stearns came in second (2:01.56) in the 200 freestyle followed by Leanne Zaug (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) third (2:01.57) while Russo and Bush were fourth (2:01.67) and fifth (2:03.47) respectively.
Lauren Grajek (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) had a third place (1:03.44) in the 100 backstroke. Julia DelNero (fr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) finished second (18:05.26) in the 1650 freestyle and fourth (1:05.70) in the 100 butterfly. In the 400 individual medley, Gallagher took fourth (4:57.56) and Wojtowicz was fifth (4:58.94). Wojtowicz also had a fourth place (2:36.52) in the 200 breaststroke and was fifth (1:12.00) in the 100 breaststroke. Alyssa Schaefer (so. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) came in fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:06.58) and 1650 freestyle (19:08.75).
The 400 freestyle relay won (3:45.46) in the evening session with Graham, Stearns, Russo and Zaug. Gallagher finished first (2:13.13) in the 200 backstroke. Russo came in second (54.98) in the 100 free while Stearns and Graham were third (55.08) and fourth (55.19) respectively. Grasso took third (2:21.02) in the 200 butterfly and Schaefer was fifth (2:27.53). In the 200 backstroke, Grajek finished third (2:19.95), Sara Seidman (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was fourth (2:21.32) followed by Nicole Vick (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) fifth (2:21.40).
Rowan will train during the winter break in San Juan, Puerto Rico from Thursday, January 3 through Thursday, January 10.
