SWARTHMORE, PA  – The Rowan University men’s swim team took first place at the Swarthmore College Invitational.  The two day event included five teams and the Profs finished with 1111.5 points.

In the Saturday morning session, Rowan won the 200 medley (1:36.34) and 800 freestyle (7:19.01) relays.  The medley relay included Larry Dow (jr. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Tyler Coe (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), Tim Dimond (sr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Pat Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).  Chris Cannizzaro (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep), Zac Wister (so. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights), Kyle Surette (fr. Marinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Connor Buck (fr. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) were on the freestyle relay.

Wister came in first in the 200 (1:44.61) and 1650 (16:19.63) freestyles.  His time in the 1650 freestyle shattered the school record of 16:36.53 by Matt King (Feb. 2002).  Dow was the winner in the 100 backstroke (52.17) while Coe was won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.18).  Surette swam 4:13.44 in the 400 individual medley for first place and his time was better than the pool record of 4:17.90.  Malone took first (51.65) in the 100 butterfly and Cannizzaro was third (53.54).

Dimond finished second (1:45.69) in the 200 freestyle while Surette and Buck were third (1:47.87) and fourth (1:51.19) respectively.  Buck also had a second place (17:18.60) in the 1650 freestyle.  Patrick Myers (fr. Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) took second (1:02.06) in the 100 breaststroke and Liam Tully (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) was third (1:04.24).  In the 100 backstroke, Brad Hawkins (jr. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) came in second (56.46) followed by Ben Cain (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) third (56.81) and Mike Demarest (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) fourth (57.71).  Chris Alaimo (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had a fifth place (17:56.54) in the 1650 freestyle.

In the evening session, Dimond, Dow, Surette and Malone were on the winning (3:14.35) 400 freestyle relay.  Surette won the 200 backstroke (1:55.58) while Dow took first (47.39) in the 100 free.  In the 200 breaststroke, Myers finished first (2:14.50), Tully was second (2:15.93) followed by Coe third (2:16.25). 

Malone was second (1:58.98) in the 200 butterfly and Cannizzaro was third (2:01.25).  Dimond came in second (2:00.34) in the 200 backstroke and Hawkins had a fourth place (2:05.08).  In the 100 free, Demarest and Cain were fourth (50.05) and fifth (50.46) respectively. 

Rowan travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico to train during the winter break from Thursday, January 3 through Thursday, January 10.
