SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University women’s swim team is in first place after the first session of the Swarthmore College Invitational.

The two day event continues on Saturday, December 1.  The second session is at 9:30 a.m. and the final session begins at 5 p.m.  After the first day, Rowan has 366 points.  Swarthmore is second (215 points) followed by Juniata College (122 points).  Cabrini College is fourth (82 points), while Ocean County College and Lycoming College are tied for fifth (58 points).

The Profs won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.31.  The relay consisted of Olivia Graham (fr. Montclair, NJ/Montclair), Teresa Stearns (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit), Gigi Russo (so. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.) and Leanne Zaug (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park).  The 400 medley relay of Kelly Gallagher (fr. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.), Olivia Wojtowicz (fr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s County), Abby Grasso (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and Zaug took second place in 4:12.02.

Allison Schneider (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was the winner in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.95.  She came in second (2:14.61) in the 200 individual medley.  Russo captured first (24.54) in the 50 freestyle followed by Stearns, second (25.44).

In the 500 freestyle, Julia DelNero (fr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) finished second (5:19.82), Graham was third (5:23.72) and Adrienne Bush (jr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) took fourth (5:26.92).  Nicole Vick (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.), Alyssa Schaefer (so. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and Grasso were fifth (5:31.41), sixth (5:32.29) and eighth (5:40.03) respectively.  Wojtowicz came in fourth (2:16.87) in the 200 individual medley.  Gallagher was fifth (2:17.96), while Lauren Grajek (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) was eighth (2:20.54). 

In the 50 freestyle, Graham and Zaug took fourth (25.71) and fifth (26.29) respectively.  Lindsey Raleigh (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) had a seventh place with a time of 26.68.
