SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University men’s swim team is in first place after the first session of the Swarthmore College Invitational.

The two day event continues on Saturday, December 1.  The second session is at 9:30 a.m. and the final session begins at 5 p.m.  Rowan is currently in first place with 364 points.  Swarthmore and Ocean Country College are second (202 points) and third (89 points) respectively.  Lycoming College is fourth (87 points) and Cabrini College follows fifth (82 points).

The Profs captured first in the 200 freestyle (1:24.44) and 400 medley (3:33.72) relays.  The freestyle relay consisted of Pat Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Max Tyburski (sr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary), Larry Dow (jr. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) and Tim Dimond (sr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus).  Kyle Surette (fr. Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), Tyler Coe (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), Dimond and Malone were on the medley relay.

In the 200 individual medley, Dow, Malone and Surette placed first (1:56.00), second (1:57.66) and third (1:58.37) respectively.  Zac Wister (so. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) won the 500 freestyle in 4:42.99.  Dimond was second (4:48.38) and Connor Buck (fr. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) came in third (5:00.10).  In the 50 freestyle, Ben Cain (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) was the winner with a time of 22.11.

Chris Cannizzaro (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) took fourth (5:00.67) in the 500 freestyle, while Gary Hessler (so. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) was eighth (5:06.84).  In the 200 individual medley, Patrick Myers (fr. Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) finished fifth (2:01.67).  Brad Hawkins (jr. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) was seventh (2:04.36) followed by Alex Miller (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn), eighth (2:04.72).  Coe came in fourth (22.53) in the 50 freestyle and Mike Demarest (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was sixth (22.72).
