GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rutgers-Camden women’s volleyball team topped Rowan University, 3-2 in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The semifinals and final are at Richard Stockton College.
The third seed, Rutgers-Camden (23-6) plays the top seed Richard Stockton College (26-6) in the conference final at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. In the other semifinal match on Saturday, Richard Stockton beat the fourth seed Kean University (26-10), 3-0. Rowan (22-9), the second seed, must wait until Monday, November 5 at 11 a.m. to see if it earns an at-large berth.
The set scores were 16-25, 27-25, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-4. The Scarlet Raptors were led by middle hitter/right side Morgan Halbruner (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) with 11 kills. Middle hitter Olivia Rowland (fr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) followed with 10 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Middle hitter Kristin Koloski (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and outside hitter/right side Marissa Kozlowski (jr. San Diego, CA/Temecula Valley) contributed with nine and seven kills respectively. Kozlowski also recorded four service aces. Setter Michelle Dixon (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Eastern Reg.) dished 24 assists and setter Stephanie Miller (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) had 20. Libero Catherine Tadeja (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) added 31 digs and outside hitter Rebecca Brown (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) had 16.
For Rowan, middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) compiled 11 kills and five blocks. Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and outside hitter/middle blocker Morgan Mende (fr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) registered 10 kills apiece. Havlicek also had 13 digs and four service aces. Outside hitter/middle blocker Danielle Havlicek (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) chipped in with nine kills and four blocks. Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) collected 42 assists and 17 digs. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) posted 13 digs.
