Men's Basketball Defeats Kenyon College, 80-71

GETTYSBURG, PA – The Rowan University men’s basketball team defeated Kenyon College, 80-71 in the first round of the Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.

Rowan meets Gettysburg in the championship on Saturday at 4 p.m.  Prior, Kenyon plays Keuka College in the consolation at 2 p.m.  Gettysburg won 60-39 over Keuka in the opening game.

The Profs had four players that scored in double figures.  Guard Rich McNamara (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) recorded a game-high 26 points.  He was 10 for 11 from the free throw line.  Forward Brendan Cox (sr. Lindenwold, NJ/Highland Reg.) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.  He tied the tournament record for boards in a game.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with 15 points and guard Kendall White (sr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) followed with 12.  Rosenberg also dished seven assists and had three steals. 

For the Lords, forward Brian Lebowitz scored 15 points and forward John Bray had 14 along with 10 boards.  Guards Julian Pavlin and Jonathan Amador each produced 11 points.  Forward Connor Garrity collected eight boards and Lebowitz had six.

Rowan was down 35-30 after the first half.  The Profs started the second period with an 8-3 run that tied the score at 38 (17:05).  Cox made three baskets and White nailed two foul shots.  Kenyon took the lead 42-38 after two free throws by Pavlin (16:38) and Lebowitz (16:18).  A 17-2 surge put Rowan ahead by 11 points (55-44) with 11:16 remaining.  Rosenberg led the way with six points and McNamara added four. 

The Lords pulled within two (59-57) at 6:32 after Lebowitz nailed two foul shots (7:48) and Pavlin hit two three-pointers (7:03, 6:32).  Rosenberg answered with a three-point play that made the score 62-57 at 6:01.  In a span of 45 seconds, guard Ikenna Nwadibia had five points and Kenyon trailed by two (69-67) with 2:56 on the clock.  McNamara scored with a layup (:39) then sank four straight free throws (:32, :12) to seal the win (80-69).  Forward Max Siegrist had the final basket for the Lords at the six-second mark.

The score was tied seven times in the first period.  The last one came with 3:10 left after Rosenberg’s free throw knotted the score at 28.  Kenyon followed with a 7-2 run to lead by five (35-30) at the break.  Bray contributed with four of the seven points for a total of 12 in the first half.
