WEST POINT, NY  – The Rowan University women’s swimming & diving team opened the season at Division I Army on Friday evening.  The Profs also competed against Boston College and the University of Vermont.

The meet scores were: Army 221, Rowan 69; Boston College 248, Rowan 50; Vermont 253, Rowan 45.

The Profs took sixth place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:48.70.  The relay included Olivia Graham (fr. Montclair, NJ/Montclair), Gigi Russo (so. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.), Teresa Stearns (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Leanne Zaug (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park). The 200 medley relay finished ninth (1:57.01) with Lauren Grajek (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Olivia Wojtowicz (fr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s County), Stearns and Russo.

Russo swam 25.29 in the 50 free and came in eighth.  In the 100 freestyle, Stearns and Russo were 13th (56.58) and 14th (57.11) respectively.  Allison Schneider (jr Cranford, NJ/Cranford) took eighth (5:24.41) in the 500 freestyle.  She also finished 13th (2:03.63) in the 200 freestyle.  Sam Wahl (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) came in ninth (2:32.76) in the 200 individual medley.

Julia DelNero (fr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) had an 11th place (11:34.62) in 1000 freestyle followed by Alyssa Schaefer (so. Ringwood NJ/DePaul Catholic), 12th (12:01.07).  Schaefer also took 12th (1:08.56) in the 100 butterfly while DelNero was 13th (2:35.33) in the 200 butterfly.  Kylie O’Rourke (sr. West Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) totaled 162.20 points in the one meter diving for 11th place.  

Wojtowicz finished seventh (2:23.22) in the 200 individual medley (2:23.22) and 13th in the 100 (1:13.65) and 200 (2:42.55) breaststrokes.  Grajek took 13th (1:05.11) in the 100 backstroke while Sara Seidman (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was 13th (2:22.89) in the 200 backstroke. 

Rowan is on the road again at Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, October 20 at 11 a.m.
