EWING, NJ –The Rowan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed at The College of New Jersey on Saturday. The Lion men defeated the Profs, 169-103 and the women won 194-97.
With the victories, the TCNJ men and women captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) titles. Both teams finished undefeated in the conference with 4-0 marks. The Lion men are 8-1 overall and the women have a 7-2 record. The Rowan men and women each have a 5-1 record and they are 2-1 in the NJAC.
The Prof women took second place in the 200 medley (1:54.19) and 400 freestyle (3:55.08) relays. The medley relay included Christie Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Pine Crest School (FL)), Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). Gustafson, Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), Stearns and Adrienne Bush (so. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) were on the free relay.
The men’s 400 freestyle had a winning time of 3:09.26 with Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary), Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Larry Dow (so. Alexndria, VA/T.C. Williams) and Tim Diamond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus). The 200 medley relay came in second in 1:35.05. The medley relay was made up of Dow, Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tyburski and Bill Malone.
Raleigh won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.64. She also came in second (24.00) in the 50 free. Schneider had second places in the 500 (5:20.04) and 1000 (11:01.41) freestyles. Grajek came in second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.04) and 200 individual medley (2:27.73). She was also third (2:14.59) in the 200 backstroke. Gustafson finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:03.31) and fourth (2:21.78) in the 200 butterfly.
In the women’s diving, the Profs took second through fourth in the one and three meter. Sam Rottkamp (sr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) registered second places with 266 and 274.35 points on the one and three meter boards respectively. In the one meter, Catherine Anzano (jr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) took third (225 points) followed by Kyle O’Rourke (jr. North Cape, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) fourth (216.80 points). Anzano also came in third (220 points) while O’Rourke was fourth (210.50 points) in the three meter diving.
Tyburski was the winner (51.92) in the 100 butterfly and he took second (21.11) in the 50 free. Pat Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) won the 200 individual medley in 2:01.13. He also had a third place (2:04.05) in the 200 butterfly. Bower finished second in the 100 (1:00.12) and 200 (2:18.59) breaststrokes. Dimond took second (4:54.57) in the 500 freestyle and was third (10:20.43) in the 1000. Dow came in second (53.03) in the 100 backstroke. In the 100 freestyle, Bill Malone was third (47.56) followed by Dow fourth (47.68). Bill Malone also had a fourth place (1:45.08) in the 200 free. Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) and Bower were third (2:09.53) and fourth (2:09.98) respectively in the 200 individual medley.
Next week, Rowan hosts conference opponent Ramapo College on Saturday, February 4 at 1 p.m.
