GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) meet on Saturday. The Prof men won with a score of 154-100, while the women had a 150-126 victory.
The Rowan men and women are both 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Montclair State men have a 4-7 record and the women are 3-6. Both teams are 0-2 in the NJAC.
The Profs won the men’s 200 medley (1:36.54) and 400 freestyle (3:15.34) relays. The 200 medley included Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) and Troy Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland). Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus), Dow, Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Mitch Friedel (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) were on the freestyle relay.
The Rowan women had first place finishes in the 200 medley (1:54.81) and 400 freestyle (3:47.34) relays. Lindsey Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.), Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Christie Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Pine Crest School (FL)) and Gigi Russo (fr. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fairhaven Reg.) made up the medley relay. Russo, Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit), Christie Raleigh and Lindsey Raleigh comprised the freestyle relay.
Bower captured first place in the men’s 100 (1:00.31) and 200 (2:15.35) breaststrokes and 200 individual medley (IM) (2:04.77). Bill Malone won the 100 (48.03) and 200 (1:46.68) freestyles. Dimond was the winner in the 200 backstroke (2:02.21) and 1000 freestyle (10:17.09). Tyburski had victories in the 50 freestyle (21.04) and 100 butterfly (52.47). Dow came in first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.34. Chris Cannizzaro (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) won the 200 butterfly in 2:04.69.
Chris Alaimo (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) took second (10:37.41) and third (10:38.16) respectively in the 1000 freestyle. Pat Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was second in the 200 butterfly (2:05.27). In the 100 backstroke, Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) captured second (57.41) and Mike Demarest (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) followed third (58.30).
For the women, Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) recorded first place finishes in the 100 (1:02.63) and 200 (2:18.47) butterflies. Christie Raleigh won the 50 (24.18) and 100 (53.36) freestyles. Grajek was a double winner in the 100 (1:03.39) and 200 (2:17.41) backstrokes. Adrienne Bush (so. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) was first in the 1000 freestyle (11:34.60) and Russo had a first place in the 200 freestyle (2:01.51). Samantha Rottkamp (sr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) won the one (247.28 points) and three (266.40 points) meter diving.
Alyssa Schaefer (fr. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) came in second in the 1000 freestyle (11:40.24) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:28.60). Abby Grasso (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) took second in the 200 butterfly (2:20.73) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:05.67) and 200 freestyle (2:07.41). Lindsey Raleigh was third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.47), while Stearns placed third in the 50 freestyle (26.43). Nicole Vick (fr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had a third place in the 200 backstroke (2:28.94). Casey Sickler (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) finished third in the 100 (1:15.66) and 200 (2:42.00) breaststrokes.
For Montclair State, Joseph Berry (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.72. He was second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.10) and 200 IM (2:08.35). Tommy Dreisback (fr. Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) took first in the one meter diving with 152.70 points. Chris Lee (sr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) came in second in the 100 (1:02.67) and 200 (2:18.24) breaststrokes and third in the 200 IM (2:08.61). Thomas Long (jr. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) finished second in the 50 (22.36) and 100 (50.08) freestyles.
Zak Westerberg (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton N.) placed second in the 100 butterfly (55.00) and 200 backstroke (2:03.60). He was also third in the 200 butterfly (2:08.88). Donny Keenan (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) captured third in the 100 (1:02.84) and 200 (2:25.80) breaststrokes. In the 50 freestyle, Sean French (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) came in third (23.48). Michael Volski (sr. Edison, NJ/Edison) had third places in the 100 freestyle (51.64) and 100 butterfly (57.42). Michael Adams (jr. Wharton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was third in the 200 backstroke (2:13.33).
Kelly Abner (sr. Glenwood, NJ/Vernon) was the winner in the women’s 200 IM (2:17.81) and 500 freestyle (5:33.94). She took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.18. Ashley Vallone (jr. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.44). She was second in the 50 freestyle (25.19) and 100 butterfly (1:02.98). Kathleen French (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) had a first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.58). She finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.59) and 200 IM (2:30.16).
Kelsie Donahue (so. Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) captured second place in the 100 (1:03.82) and 200 (2:17.65) backstrokes and the 500 freestyle (5:38.61). Jacky Moe (jr. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) came in second in the 100 freestyle (1:01.44) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:46.79). Maria Vira (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:41.53) and third in the 200 IM (2:36.19). Allie Golden (sr. Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) finished third in the 100 freestyle (1:02.19). Lauren Corrente (sr. Nyack, NY/Nyack) was second in the one meter diving with 201.75 points.
