GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s basketball team had a 74-58 victory over Vaughn College in a nonconference game on Thursday night.

The Profs improve to 8-7 overall and have won four straight games.  The Warriors have a 5-10 record.  Rowan was led by guard Rich McNamara (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) with 21 points and nine rebounds.  He made eight of 10 field goals and five of seven three-pointers.  Guard Kendall White (jr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) registered 14 points.  Center Dee Benson (so. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) contributed with 10 points.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) collected a career-high 13 assists.

For Vaughn, forward Jihad Ceasar (jr. Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) totaled 22 points, five rebounds and five steals.  Forward Brandon Reid (fr. Cambria Heights, NY/Martin Van Buren) compiled 16 points.  Guard Ryan Burchette (so. Hanover, MD/Howard) chipped in with 10 points and five steals.  Forward Moises Chaucer (fr. Bronx, NY/A. Phillip Randolph) posted eight points and five boards.

Rowan started the game with a 16-4 surge over the first 5:01.  McNamara scored six points, forward Jason Sofman (so. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and White each recorded four and Benson added a basket.  The Profs were ahead, 18-6 after a jumper by guard Fred Battee (jr. Westville, NJ/Deptford) at 11:49.  Ceasar hit two free throws (10:56, 9:23) and Reid had a layup (10:20) to bring Vaughn within eight (18-10). 

The Warriors trailed by three (20-17) after a basket (8:58) and a three-pointer (7:23) by Ceasar.  Benson’s layup at 4:42 extended the lead to seven (26-19).  Reid converted two free throws at 3:24 to make the score, 26-21.  The Profs collected the next seven points for a 12 point advantage (33-21) with 1:30 remaining.  White hit a three-pointer (3:16) and back-to-back layups (2:02, 1:30).  Reid had a basket (1:03) but McNamara answered with a three-pointer (:40) to put Rowan up, 36-23 at the intermission.  McNamara totaled 13 points in the period, while White had 11.

At 17:35 in the second half, McNamara made a layup to extend the lead to 17 (40-23).  Vaughn was behind, 51-35 after a basket by Reid at 13:10.  Rowan pushed the advantage to 21 (56-35) after a layup by Benson (12:08) and a three-pointer by McNamara (10:33).  The Profs’ largest lead of the game was 26 points at 3:03 (70-44) and 2:14 (72-46).  Ceasar registered 13 points in the second period and Reid had 10.
