GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 6-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
The Profs improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Scarlet Raptors have a 0-4-1 record with a 0-1 NJAC mark.
Back Miranda Donnian (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) was the top scorer with two goals. Midfielders Veronica Rhea (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) and Christie Fink (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), forward Morgan Muracco (jr. Sewell, NJ/Paul VI) and back Leah Carney (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) each contributed with one goal. Midfielder Nina Fragoso (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) collected two assists while back Dayna Sakalsky (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central), forward Erika Suhl (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.), midfielder Chelsea Eckel (fr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.), Carney, Fink and Rhea all had one.
For Rutgers-Camden, goalkeeper Leighanna Milby (so. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) made five saves. Goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini (jr. Elmer, NJ/A.P. Schalick) played the first half for the Profs. Maria Dorris (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) started the second in goal and stopped two shots in 28:26. Goalkeeper Jillian Brannan (sr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) was in the net for the final 16:34 of the game.
Rowan had a 3-0 lead after the first half. Carney started the scoring with an unassisted goal at 13:01. She kicked in a loose ball during a scramble in front of the goal. Muracco had a shot from outside the box to the top left corner (30:30) for the second. Fink registered the assist. Rhea tipped in a header by Carney at 32:26. The goal was also assisted by Eckel.
In the second period, Rhea crossed the ball to Fink after a feed from Fragoso. Fink’s shot went in the right side of the goal at 48:38. Donnian picked up her first goal at 52:51. Sakalsky passed the ball from the corner to Suhl who tipped it to Donnian. Rowan’s sixth goal came 52 seconds later. Donnian knocked in a rebound from a shot by Fragoso.
Next, Rowan travels to conference opponent New Jersey City University on Saturday, September 24 for a 1 p.m. contest.
