GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated Neumann University, 10-1 on Saturday. The Profs scored in bunches during their home opener.
Forward Morgan Muracco (jr. Sewell, NJ/Paul VI), back Miranda Donnian (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and midfielders Veronica Rhea (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) and Evynn Wright (sr. Marlton, NJ/Eastern Reg.) each scored two goals for the Profs. Midfielders Jess Durnian (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and Michele Ercolano (jr. Emerson, NJ/Paramus Catholic) each added a goal. Donnian also assisted on two goals.
Neumann University’s lone goal came from midfielder Alexis Tiernan (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). The loss dropped the Knights to 1-3.
Rowan (1-2) outshot Neumann, 23-6. Rowan goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini (jr. Elmer, NJ/A.P. Schalick) started the game and Deanna Wood (so. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) replaced her at halftime. Wood finished the game with two saves. Knights’ goalie Brittany Russ (sr. Geneva, NY/Marcus Whitman) stopped two shots.
Rowan back Leah Carney (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) sent a beautiful pass to Wright to start the scoring at 7:15. Rowan went into halftime, leading 3-0. Wright opened the second half with her second goal at 47:05. After back-to-back goals by Rhea, Neumann got on the scoreboard. Tiernan scored at 66:34 to spoil the shutout. After allowing the goal, Wood made a spectacular diving save to halt Neumann from scoring in the 75th minute.
Next week, Rowan visits conference opponent Montclair State University on Saturday, September 17 at noon.
