ROSEMONT, PA – The Rowan University men’s basketball team defeated Rosemont College, 62-54 in a nonconference game on Thursday night.

Rowan has an 8-11 record, while Rosemont falls to 6-12. The Profs were led by guard Roger Loatman (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) with a career-high 24 points, five rebounds and three steals. Guard Kendall White (so. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) posted 19 points and six boards. Guard Akeem Johnson (jr. Gouldtown, NJ/Bridgeton) chipped in with 10 points and three steals. Guard Jason Rosenberg (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) dished seven assists, while forward Tom Paterno (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) grabbed nine rebounds.

For the Ravens, forward Greg Gardner (sr. Sharon Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner) totaled 13 points and nine rebounds. Forward Derrick Carter (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. Forward Harrison Carsillo (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored 10 points. Forward Tremell Green (so. Philadelphia, PA/BOK) contributed with eight points and seven rebounds. Guard Justin Chaney (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) tallied seven assists.

Rowan jumped out to a 9-0 lead at 16:44 in the first period. Loatman registered five of the nine points. The Profs were ahead, 22-13 following a layup and a foul shot by White at 5:19. He added a basket at 4:47 to stretch the advantage to 11 (24-13). After a jumper by Gardner (4:36), Loatman had a three-point play (4:07) to go up by 12 (27-15). Loatman’s layup with 1:33 on the clock made the score, 31-18. Ravens’ forward Kiwan Murray (fr. Philadelphia, PA/West Catholic) sunk one of two free throws with 56 seconds remaining to trail by 12 (31-19) at the intermission. White scored 13 points in the half, while Loatman had 10.

Rosemont began the second stanza with a 9-2 surge to pull within five (33-28) at 16:58. Loatman hit a three-pointer at 14:57 to go ahead by eight (38-30). Johnson’s jumper at 11:17 made the score, 44-37. Guard/forward Dan Kearney (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) converted a three-pointer (10:57) and a free throw (10:53) to bring the Ravens within three (44-41). The Profs followed with six straight points to go up by nine (50-41) at 6:59. Loatman collected four points and Johnson had two.

A three-pointer by Carsillo (6:39) and a layup by Green (4:58) made it a four point game (50-46). Loatman (3:31) and Johnson (3:03) had back-to-back layups to extend the lead to eight (56-48). Carter sunk two foul shots (2:45) and Gardner had a basket (1:43) to come within four (56-52). Loatman answered with a three-pointer at 1:04. Carter recorded a layup with 48 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to five (59-54). Loatman made two free throws (:31) and Rosenberg had one (:24) to seal the win. Loatman compiled 14 points in the second half. Gardner and Carter had 11 and 10 points respectively for the Ravens.
