Rowan Men's and Women's Swimming And Diving Teams End Second Day at Mets

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams ended the second day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships on Saturday night. The championships conclude on Sunday at Rutgers University.

The men had a sixth place (1:37.32) in the 200 yard medley relay with Stefan Pietrobono (so., Newark, DE/Brandywine), Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp., NJ), Tim Dimond (so. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Jerry Capriotti (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland). Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Kyle Banks (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassoro), Dimond and Michael Brooks (sr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) made up the fourth place (7:08.29) 800 yard freestyle relay.

The women’s 200 yard medley relay finished fifth with a time of 1:51.27 and the 800 yard freestyle relay took sixth (8:09.94). The medley relay consisted of Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Teresa Stearns (so., Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), Abby Grasso (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), Charlene Gustafson (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and Adrienne Bush (fr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) were on the free relay.

In the men’s 200 yard freestyle, Dimond and Malone were fourth (1:43.04) and fifth (1:43.13) respectively. Pietrobono came in ninth (53.82) in the 100 yard backstroke and Bower finished 10th (1:00.55) in the 100 yard breaststroke. Brian McDermott (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) had an 11th place (4:23.12) in the 400 yard individual medley.

In the women’s individual events, Winters came in fourth (4:37.92) in the 400 yard individual medley and Schneider was seventh (4:46.30). Winters also had an eighth place (1:00.85) in the 100 yard backstroke. Rahter took fourth (1:06.86) in the 100 yard breaststroke. O’Gorman finished seventh (1:00.94) in the 100 yard butterfly.

On Sunday, the prelims start at 9:30 a.m. with the 200 yard backstrokes. The 1650 yard freestyle is the first event for the finals that begin at 5:30 p.m.
