Rowan Men's and Women's Swimming And Diving Teams Compete On First Day Of Mets

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed on the first day of the Metropolitan Championships on Friday. The three-day meet continues on Saturday-Sunday, February 19-20 at Rutgers University.

The Prof women are currently in fourth place out of 19 schools with 273 points. The Rowan men have 229 points for fifth among 18 teams.

The women’s 400 medley (4:01.00) and 200 freestyle (1:41.65) relays finished fourth and fifth respectively. Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Briana Baud (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) were on the medley relay. The freestyle relay was comprised of Rahter, Sam King (sr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Teresa Stearns (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Baud.

The men’s 200 freestyle relay of Stefan Pietrobono (so. Newark, DE/Brandywine), Jerry Capriotti (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Ryan McNally (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) placed fifth in 1:25.74. Rowan was eighth (3:34.59) in the 400 medley relay with Pietrobono, Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tim Dimond (so. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Malone.

Rahter took fifth place in the women’s 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.65. Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) won the 500 freestyle consolation for ninth place overall in 5:13.88. Malone had an eighth place in the men’s 50 freestyle (21.38). Dimond was the winner in the 500 freestyle consolation and ninth overall in 4:42.63.

In the women’s three meter diving, Sam Rottkamp (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) came in third with 458.15 points, while Catherine Anzano (so. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) captured seventh (347.25 points). Rottkamp broke her own school record (447.40 points), which she set in 2009. Mark Balesteri (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) was third in the men’s one meter diving with 463.45 points. Kyle Bianchini (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) followed in fifth place (389.15 points).

On Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 20, the preliminaries are at 9:30 a.m. and the finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
