Rowan Defeats Lancaster Bible, 79-70

LANCASTER, PA – The Rowan University men’s basketball team defeated host Lancaster Bible College, 79-70 on Monday night. The game was rescheduled from February 1 due to the weather.

Guard Roger Loatman (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) led the Profs with a career-high 27 points. Guard Sean Hughes (sr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) contributed with 10 points and eight rebounds. Guards Akeem Johnson (jr. Gouldtown, NJ/Bridgeton), Kendall White (so. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) and Rich McNamara (fr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) added nine points apiece. Guard Jason Rosenberg (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) collected eight assists, six points and five steals.

Rowan is 11-13 overall while Lancaster Bible has a 10-13 record. For the Chargers, forward Erich Graybill recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Guards Madison Warfel and Kody Koser each totaled 12 points while guard Kevin Keltner had 11. Keltner also registered seven assists and three steals. Forward Eric Nulf chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

In the first half, the Profs were ahead 10-5 at 14:16 after two foul shots by White. Koser followed with a layup (12:23) and a three-pointer (12:00) that tied the score at 10. Graybill made two free throws at 9:34 for a tie game (14-14). Rowan scored eight straight points to lead 22-14 with 7:42 remaining. Loatman tallied four points while Rosenberg and McNamara each had two. Guard Keith Keltner’s basket at 6:39 pulled the Chargers within four points (22-18).

McNamara hit a three (6:09) and guard Laud Anderson (sr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.) had a jumper (5:30) for a nine point advantage (27-18). Lancaster Bible trailed by five points (29-24) after Nulf’s layup with 3:42 left. The Profs ended the period with three baskets by Loatman for an 11 point margin (35-24) at the break. He compiled 16 points in the first period.

After Hughes’ foul shot (19:37) in the second stanza, the Chargers cut the deficit to four (36-32) at 17:12 with an 8-0 run. Kevin Keltner made a layup (16:41) then Loatman had a three-point play (15:47) that made the score 42-34. Loatman’s jumper at 12:58 put the Profs up by nine (48-39). With 10:09 on the clock, Rowan led by 12 points (53-41) after a basket by Loatman. Hughes hit two foul shots (4:38) and Rowan had its biggest lead of the game, 14 points (64-50). Rosenberg connected on two free throws at 1:30 for a 10 point advantage (69-59). Warfel’s layup at the 34 second mark pulled the Chargers within eight (73-65). Koser had a jumper (0:13) and Hughes was good at the line for two (0:13) for the final score.

Rowan ends the regular season at The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, February 16 at 8 p.m.
