GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rosemont College men’s basketball team had a 68-66 win over Rowan University in a nonconference game on Monday night.
The Ravens have a 4-3 record, while the Profs fall to 3-4. Guard Justin Chaney (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) led the way with 18 points, including six three-pointers. Forward Tremell Green (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Bok) registered 14 points, while forward Mitch Carsillo (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) had 10. Forward Harrison Carsillo (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) totaled seven points, seven rebounds and five assists. Guard DeAndre Jordan (jr. Marbury, MD/Henry E. Lackey) and forward Derrick Carter (jr. Millville, NJ/Millville) both grabbed seven boards.
For Rowan, forward Rich McNamara (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) scored a career-high 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Guard Kendall White (jr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) tallied 14 points and six boards. Center Dee Benson (so. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Phil Jackson (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) contributed with 10 points off the bench. Guard Jason Rosenberg (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) dished five assists.
Rosemont was ahead by 10 (46-36) with 13:31 remaining in the second half. The Profs went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 48 with 10 minutes on the clock. Jackson recorded six of the 12 points. White’s layup at 7:06 made the score, 52-52. Mitch Carsillo sunk three free throws (6:45) and nailed a three-pointer (5:49) to give the Ravens a six point lead (58-52). McNamara made a jumper (5:36) and Jackson had two foul shots (4:57) to bring Rowan within two (58-56).
Chaney’s three-pointer at 4:35 extended the advantage to five (61-56). White (3:37) and McNamara (3:09) both converted two free throws. Chaney answered with another three at 2:55. Green added a layup at 2:17 to go up, 66-60. McNamara and Rosenberg had baskets at 1:59 and 1:23 respectively and the Profs trailed by two (66-64). Mitch Carsillo’s layup with six seconds left put Rosemont ahead by four (68-64). Rowan guard Matt Rosengrant (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) had a basket as time expired to end the scoring. Chaney scored 12 points in the second stanza, while Green had 10. McNamara post 12 points for the Profs and Jackson added 10.
Carter’s three-pointer at 10:31 in the first half gave Rosemont a 12-11 lead. Guard Fred Battee (jr. Westville, NJ/Deptford) hit a jumper (10:01) and McNamara nailed a three-pointer (8:13) to give the Profs a four point advantage (16-12). Rowan was up, 19-15 after White’s three at 7:41.
Mitch Carsillo had a layup (6:17) and Chaney made a three (5:45) to put the Ravens ahead by one (20-19). Forward Theodore Thompson (so. Bryn Mawr, PA/Delaware County CC) connected on one of two free throws at the three minute mark and Rosemont was up by four (25-21). White had a layup (2:33) and a foul shot (1:58) to bring Rowan within one (25-24). His tip-in at 1:14 gave the Profs a one point advantage (26-25). Carter answered with a layup (1:02) and Thompson added a basket as the clock ran out to make the score, 29-26 at halftime. McNamara had 10 points in the period.
Rowan hosts the Heritage’s Dairy Stores Classic on Friday-Saturday, December 9-10. On Friday, Berkeley College plays Widener University at 6 p.m. followed by Penn State Brandywine against Rowan at 8 p.m. The winners meet in the championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. Prior, the consolation is at 1 p.m.
