SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University women’s swim team took third place at the Swarthmore College Invitational. The invitational ended with two sessions on Saturday.
The Profs totaled 561.5 points while Widener University was first (625 points) followed by Ursinus College second (611). There were 10 teams competing at the two-day event.
In the morning, Rowan finished third (1:56.27) in the 200 medley relay with Lindsey Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), Abby Grasso (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), Gustafson and Adrienne Bush (so. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) were on the fourth place (8:14.50) 800 freestyle relay.
Schneider won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:46.41. Grasso came in fourth (2:03.31) in the 200 freestyle. Casey Sickler (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) took fourth (1:13.88) in the 100 breaststroke. In the 100 backstroke, Grajek and Raleigh were fifth (1:02.87) and eighth (1:03.55) respectively.
Gustafson finished fifth (1:02.05) in the 100 butterfly. Bush took seventh (4:55.82) in the 400 individual medley and Grajek was ninth (5:03.62). In the 200 free, Bush was seventh (2:04.19) followed by Stearns, eighth (2:04.54). Alyssa Schaefer (fr. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) had a 10th place (1:05.50) in the 100 butterfly and she was 13th (2:06.32) in the 200 free.
In the evening, Schneider took first in the 1650 freestyle (18:06.34). In the 200 butterfly, Gustafson and Grasso were fourth (2:18.36) and fifth (2:19.92) respectively while Schaefer was eighth (2:25.26). Stearns came in fourth (56.15) in the 100 free. Grajek finished seventh (2:16.61) in the 200 backstroke and Sickler took eighth (2:38.70) in the 200 breaststroke. Christie Carroll (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was eighth (19:43.01) in the 1650 freestyle.
Rowan had a fifth place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:49.04. The relay team was Grajek, Stearns, Schneider and Leanne Zaug (fr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park).
