SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University swim teams competed at the Swarthmore College Invitational on Friday night.  The two-day invitational continues on Saturday with the morning session at 9:30 a.m. followed by the early evening session at 4:30 p.m.
 
The men took first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:24.91 that was a NCAA B cut (3:25.98).  The Profs also broke the school record of 3:26.89 by Matt Sprang, Joe Chiaccio, Ayinde Mitchell and Eric Dinsmore (March 1999).  The relay consisted of Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) and Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).  Tyburski, Dow, Troy Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Malone were on the winning (1:22.81) 200 freestyle relay that set a school record and had a NCAA B cut (1:23.51).  The previous time was 1:24.25 by Mike Johnson, Glenn Thomsen, Mike Wilkinson and Dinsmore (March 1996).

Tyburski had a first place in the 50 free (20.60).  His time was better than the NCAA B cut of 20.93.  Malone was second (21.28) in the 50 free while Dow and Cervini were third (21.34) and fourth (21.62) respectively.  Luke Minka (fr. Wilmington, DE/Vista (CA)) captured first (2:01.26) in the 200 individual medley.  Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) followed second (2:01.99) and Tyler Huizing (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) was third (2:03.42). 
 
Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) finished third (4:55.23) in the 500 freestyle.  Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) and Liam Tully (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) were fifth (2:04.81) and seventh (2:05.26) respectively in the 200 individual medley.  Bower came in seventh (22.23) in the 50 free while Mitch Friedel (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Elliot Ortiz (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) tied for eighth (22.33).
 
Rowan took third (1:43.06) in the women’s 200 freestyle relay and fifth (4:13.89) in the 400 medley relay.  The free relay included Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit), Leanne Zaug (fr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park), Lindsey Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton).  Raleigh, Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Gustafson and Stearns made up the medley relay.
 
Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) won the 500 freestyle in 5:14.74 and Adrienne Bush (so. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) came in sixth (5:27.05).  In the 200 individual medley, Gustafson and Grajek were sixth (2:16.98) and seventh (2:19.17) respectively.  Stearns took sixth in the 50 free with a time of 25.52.
