CAMDEN, NJ – Back Taylor McGrory scored the game-winning goal with 5:04 remaining in regulation to give Rutgers-Camden a 1-0 victory over Rowan University in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Wednesday night.
The score was 0-0 after the first half. Back Bobby Foster (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) sent a pass into the box and McGrory (so. Laurel Springs, NJ/Sterling) kicked it into the net at 84:56 in the second period.
The top seeded Scarlet Raptors (15-2-2) will host the second seed Montclair State University (15-2-3) in the conference final on Saturday, November 5. The Profs, seeded fourth, finish the season with a 9-6-4 record. In the other semifinal game on Wednesday, Montclair State defeated the third seed William Paterson University, 2-0. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Rutgers-Camden took 18 shots and Rowan had 11. Goalkeeper Tim VanLiew (sr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) made five saves for his ninth shutout of the season. Earlier on Wednesday, he was named the NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Profs’ goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped four shots.
