GLASSBORO, NJ – The men’s and women’s swim teams hosted the Rowan Cup Races on Saturday.  The races included Swarthmore College and Widener University. 

In the morning session, the men won the 200 medley relay (1:37.43) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.94).  Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) and Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) were on the medley relay.  The free relay included Dow, Troy Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Malone and Tyburski.

Tyburski was the winner (21.15) in the 50 free followed by Malone and Dow who were second (21.92) and third (22.16) respectively.  Malone came in first (1:47.40) in the 200 freestyle and Luke Minka (fr. Wilmington, DE/Vista (CA)) took first (2:05.19) in the 200 individual medley. 

In the 100 breaststroke, the Profs finished first through fifth.  Bower was the winner (1:00.95) followed by Minka second (1:03.98) and Liam Tully (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) third (1:06.01).  Kevin Sheridan (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Dan Choyce (so. Erial, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) were fourth (1:06.04) and fifth (1:06.63) respectively.  Ryan Hennessy (so. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) had a second place (56.90) in the 100 butterfly and Chris Cannizzaro (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) followed third (57.17).  Cervini took second (1:52.88) in the 200 freestyle.

Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) finished third (2:09.25) in the 200 individual medley.  Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) was fourth (5:10.70) in the 500 freestyle.  In the 100 backstroke, Mike Demarest (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) came in fourth (59.48) while Chris Alaimo (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) was fifth (59.80) followed by Tyler Huizing (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and Nate Parsley (sr. Milford, DE/Milford) who were sixth (1:00.55) and seventh (1:00.59) respectively.  Mitch Friedel (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) finished fifth (22.42) in the 50 free, Cervini took sixth (22.60) and Elliot Ortiz (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) was seventh (22.66).

In the early evening session, Rowan won the 400 medley relay (3:35.23) with Dow, Bower, Tyburski and Malone.  The 200 freestyle relay came in second with a time of 1:33.78.  Huizing, Friedel, Ortiz and Sheridan were on the free relay.

Dow swam a winning time of 2:00.68 in the 200 butterfly.  Tyburski won the 100 free in 47.60 while Tully had a first place (2:20.08) in the 200 breaststroke.  In the 200 butterfly, Hennessy finished second (2:08.68) and Cannizzaro was third (2:09.46).

Malone took second in the 100 free (47.83) and Friedel was fourth (50.51).  Minka came in second (2:22.99) in the 200 breaststroke while Hawkins and Bower were fifth (2:24.64) and sixth (2:25.47) respectively.  Hessler finished second (18:42.93) in the 1650 freestyle followed by Tom Frain (fr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) third (19:09.53).  Huizing had a fourth place (4:35.62) in the 400 individual medley.  In the 200 backstroke, Alaimo and Demarest were fourth (2:09.75) and fifth (2:09.83) respectively.

After Thanksgiving, Rowan will compete at the Swarthmore College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3.
