Rowan Defeats New Jersey City, 3-1

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team had a 3-1 victory over New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Thursday night.  The set scores were 14-25, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-19.

The Profs improve to 13-14 overall and 5-2 in the conference.  The Gothic Knights have a 7-19 record with a 0-7 NJAC mark.  Rowan is the third seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament and will host a first round match on Tuesday, November 1.

Outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) led the Profs with 12 kills and three service aces.  Outside hitter/middle blocker Dakota Oeskovic (so. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) followed with 11 kills.  Middle blockers Elaina Hansen (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) and Sarah Hanrahan (fr. Montvale, NJ/Pascack Hills) added eight and seven kills respectively.  Hansen had a team-high five blocks.  Setter Kelsey Donovan (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled 29 assists and 11 digs.  Libero Lauren Ruffalo (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied 20 digs, while defensive specialists Sarah Betancourt (sr. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) and Casey Grasso (so. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) had 11 apiece.

For New Jersey City, middle blocker Jade Medley (fr. Newark, NJ/Hudson Catholic) registered 12 kills.  Opposite Indigo Hatcher (fr. Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) and outside hitter Tabitha Jordan (sr. West New York, NJ/Memorial) each compiled five kills.  Outside hitter Kiara Martinez (jr. Newark, NJ/East Side) and Jordan both produced 14 digs.  Libero Amanda Dopico (jr. West New York, NJ/Memorial) contributed with 18 digs.  Setter Cindy Garcia (fr. West New York, NJ/Memorial) accumulated 21 assists and 12 digs.

Rowan hosts a tri-match on Saturday, October 29.  The Profs play Gwynedd-Mercy College at 11 a.m. and Stevenson University at 3 p.m.
