GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team won 3-0 over The College of New Jersey in the final game of the regular season. With the win, the Profs are the fourth seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
Rowan has a 9-5-3 record with a 4-2-2 conference mark. TCNJ ends the season 5-8-4 overall and 0-6-2 in the NJAC. In the first round of the conference tournament, Rowan hosts the fifth seed Richard Stockton College on Saturday, October 29 at 6 p.m.
Back Lou Buonocore (so. Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) put the Profs on the scoreboard at 2:43. He blasted a shot from 40 yards that went off the Lions’ goalkeeper Matt Frederick’s (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) hands into the net. Midfielder Shane Kohler (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) headed in the second goal at 10:09 after a header by midfielder Shane Dooley (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.). Forward Christian Fountain (fr. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) recorded the third goal at 78:57. He dribbled the ball around two defenders then had a shot to the right corner of the net.
Rowan took nine shots while TCNJ registered 14. Goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) made two saves for his fifth shutout. Frederick stopped three shots in the first half and goalkeeper Adam Friedman (jr. Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham) played the second.
