GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams swept Salisbury University in a nonconference meet on Tuesday night. The Prof men won with a score of 147-105, while the women’s score was 155-107.
The Rowan men and women are both 2-0, while the Salisbury men and women each have a 1-1 record. The Prof men won the 200 yard medley (1:40.05) and 200 yard freestyle (1:28.20) relays. The medley relay was comprised of Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Troy Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland). Dow, Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Cervini and Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) were on the freestyle relay.
Rowan also had first places in the women’s 200 yard medley (1:56.44) and 200 yard freestyle (1:47.47) relays. Lindsey Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.), Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) made up the medley relay. The freestyle relay consisted of Gustafson, Stearns, Abby Grasso (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford).
Tyburski took first place in the 100 (47.62) and 200 (1:47.61) yard freestyles and the 200 yard individual medley (2:01.92). In the 1000 yard freestyle, Dimond captured first (10:55.62), followed by Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), second (10:57.01). Dow had a first place in the 100 yard backstroke (53.80) and he came in second in the 100 yard freestyle (49.25).
Bower had a first place in the 100 (1:00.86) and 200 (2:17.40) yard breaststrokes. Malone was first in the 50 (21.56) and 500 (5:00.51) yard freestyles. Chris Cannizzaro (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) took first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.03. Ryan Hennessy (so. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) captured first in the 100 yard butterfly (56.23). Elliot Ortiz (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) finished third in the 50 (22.59) and 100 (50.72) yard freestyles. Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) had a third place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:54.87).
For the women, Schneider won the 200 (2:04.44), 500 (5:28.35) and 1000 (11:13.60) yard freestyles. Grajek recorded first places in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.74) and 200 yard individual medley (2:22.16). She took second in the 100 yard breastroke (1:12.77). Raleigh had a first place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.99) and captured third in the 50 yard freestyle (26.00) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:43.17).
In the 200 yard butterfly, Grasso took first (2:23.69) followed by Gustafson, second (2:24.37) and Michelle Dunn (sr. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford), third (2:33.82). Gustafson registered a first place in the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.64). Stearns was first (25.35) and second (57.42) in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles respectively. Alyssa Schaefer (fr. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) placed second in the 500 (5:41.87) and 1000 (11:40.95) yard freestyles. She was third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:09.02). Casey Sickler (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) came in second in the 200 yard breastroke (2:41.37) and third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.21) and 200 yard individual medley (2:29.23). Leanne Zaug (fr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and Nicole Vick (fr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) finished third in the 100 yard freestyle (58.73) and 200 yard backstroke (2:29.91) respectively.
