WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team lost at conference opponent William Paterson University, 4-3 in overtime. Forward Anthony Ferrer scored all four goals for the Pioneers.
Ferrer (sr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) recorded the game-winner at 5:42 in the first overtime. He picked up a bad clear and shot the ball into the right side of the Profs’ net. William Paterson is 8-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rowan has a 4-4-2 record with a 1-2-1 conference mark.
The Profs ended the game with 11 shots while the Pioneers had 10. Goalkeeper Zach Collins (sr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) made one save for William Paterson. Rowan goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped two shots in 71 minutes. Goalkeeper Michael Fanz-Huster (jr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) played 24:42.
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers went up 3-0 in a span of 1:45. Ferrer’s first goal unassisted came at the 63-minute mark. His second came on a penalty kick 38 seconds later. At 64:45, Ferrer knocked in a cross from back/midfielder Michael Encarnacion (jr. Franklin, NJ/Passaic County Tech).
Rowan got on the scoreboard at 77:43 with an unassisted goal by midfielder Parker Oris (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.). Oris blasted a shot from 22 yards to the left side of the William Paterson goal. Midfielder Vince Scalici (jr. Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross) cut the deficit to one at 82:32, scoring on a free kick. With 51 seconds left, forward Joe Parella (sr. Howell, NJ/Howell) registered the tying goal. Forward Christian Fountain (fr. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) had the assist.
Next week, Rowan hosts nonconference opponent Moravian College on Wednesday, October 5 at 7 p.m.
