GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Brittany Phillips scored two goals for the Rowan University field hockey team in a 3-0 shutout over visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday night.
The Profs also had one goal from forward Katie Griffis (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.). Back Amy McKeever (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) contributed with two assists and midfielder Ashley Adams (sr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) added one.
Rowan, ranked eighth in the nation, has an 8-3 record while RPI is 5-3 on the season. The Profs accumulated 30 total shots and the Engineers had two. Goalie Jen Goldberg (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made one save for her second shutout. Goalie Brianna Earle (sr. Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) turned away 10 shots.
Both teams were scoreless after the first half. Phillips (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Delsea Reg.) scored at 44:13 on pass that went around Earle from McKeever. Griffis hit the left corner of the cage for the second goal (45:11) with an assist from McKeever. At 58:10, Phillips scored the final goal with a low shot on a pass from Adams.
Rowan travels to number one ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday, October 5 for a 6 p.m. contest.
