GLASSBORO, NJ – The Neumann University men’s basketball team had a 74-60 victory over Rowan University in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

The Knights improve to 5-5, while the Profs have a 5-7 record. Neumann was led by guard Patrick O’Connor (jr. Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Forward Mark Blount (fr. Philadelphia, PA/William Penn) registered 17 points, a game-high 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Guard Marquise Boggs (sr. Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) was also in double figures with 11 points. Guard Dom Gibson (fr. Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) added nine points off the bench.

For Rowan, guard Roger Loatman (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) scored 12 points. Guard Sean Hughes (sr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) contributed with 11 points, while forward Steve Secula (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had 10 points and nine boards.

Neumann never trailed in the contest. The Knights started the game with a 15-4 run over the first 5:01. Patrick scored seven points, Blount totaled four and guard Mike Walukiewicz (jr. Elmer, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) and Bogg each made a jumper. The score was 20-10 at 10:51. Rowan had layups by center Chris Gebhart (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and Loatman at 10:27 and 10:16 respectively. Loatman’s basket at 8:52 brought the Profs within seven (23-16).

The Knights scored the next 11 points for an 18 point advantage (34-16) at 7:22. Guard Terrance Clark (jr. Middletown, DE/Middletown) nailed two three-pointers and Gibson had five points. Rowan came within 13 (40-27) at 4:26. Neumann closed out the half with an 11-2 surge for a 22 point halftime lead (51-29). O’Connor led all scorers with 14 points in the period.

Blount’s jumper at 17:27 in the second stanza made the score 55-31, which was the Knight’s largest lead of the game. With 9:01 on the clock, Neumann was ahead by 23 (67-44). Rowan put together an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 12 (67-55) at 3:16. The closest the Profs came the rest of the way was 11 points (68-57) after a jumper by Loatman at 2:26.

Rowan travels to William Paterson University for a conference game on Saturday, January 8 at 1 p.m.
