SCRANTON, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated the University of Scranton on Monday night. The Prof men won 155-107, while the women had a 154-108 victory.
Both the Rowan men and women have a 6-1 record. The Scranton women fall to 7-3, while the men have a 4-5 mark. The men’s 400 yard freestyle relay won with a time of 3:18.60. The relay consisted of Stefan Pietrobono (so. Newark, DE/Brandywine), Jerry Capriotti (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Tim Dimond (so. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). The 200 yard medley relay of Pietrobono, Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Ryan McNally (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Capriotti came in second (1:41.88).
Dimond captured first place in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:30.67), 200 yard backstroke (2:07.57) and 100 yard butterfly (54.57). Malone took first in the 100 (49.63) and 200 (1:48.03) yard freestyles. He was also third in the 50 yard freestyle (22.76). Pietrobono was the winner in the 100 yard backstroke (56.54) and Bower had a first place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.08). Jeff Terrell (so. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Capriotti came in first in the 500 (5:06.45) and 50 (22.54) yard freestyles respectively.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Mike Demarest (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) finished second (2:08.23) followed by Brian McDermott (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic, third (2:08.84). McDermott was also third in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.81. Bower captured second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:21.19). Ryan Walker (so. Union, NJ/Union Catholic) was second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:12.31) followed by Bower, third (2:12.87). Walker was also third in the 100 yard backstroke (59.19).
Michael Brooks (sr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) placed second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:08.93) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.00). Terrell and Capriotti came in third in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:54.59) and 100 yard butterfly (56.36) respectively.
The women took second place in the 200 yard medley (1:56.02) and 400 yard freestyle (3:47.58) relays. The medley relay was comprised of Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Teresa Stearns (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). Winters, Stearns, Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and Briana Baud (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) were on the freestyle relay.
Schneider won two individual events. She was first in the 500 (5:31.76) and 1000 (11:15.43) yard freestyles. Schneider also finished second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:02.61). Winters captured first in the 100 (1:01.83) and 200 (2:14.08) yard backstrokes. Rahter was the winner in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:32.50) and 200 yard individual medley (2:18.33). She came in second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.17.
O’Gorman came in first place in the 100 (1:02.87) and 200 (2:19.25) yard butterflies. Baud finished first in the 100 yard freestyle (56.51) and second in the 50 yard freestyle (26.16). Julianne Furdyna (sr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) placed second in the 500 (5:34.09) and 1000 (11:18.50) yard freestyles and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:06.97). Sam King (sr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) was second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:21.16) and third in the 100 (1:13.44) and 200 (2:37.39) yard breaststrokes.
In the 100 yard freestyle, Stearns captured second place with a time of 58.42. Charlene Gustafson (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) was second in the 100 (1:03.11) and 200 (2:19.53) yard butterflies. Lindsey Raleigh (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and Lauren Grajek (fr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) came in third in the 100 (1:05.22) and 200 (2:21.65) yard backstrokes respectively. Adrienne Bush (fr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) had a third place in the 500 yard freestyle (5:38.26).
