POMONA, NJ – At the Richard Stockton College Classic, forward Jess Babice scored all three goals for the Rowan University women’s soccer team in a 3-0 shutout over New York University.
In the other first round game on Saturday, Richard Stockton defeated Wilkes University, 2-1. The classic continues on Sunday with Rowan meeting Wilkes at 1 p.m. followed by NYU against Richard Stockton at 3 p.m.
Babice (sr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) had the three goals in the first 16 minutes of the game. The first one was unassisted at the 25-second mark. Forward Veronica Rhea (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) assisted on the second goal at 10:56. Babice’s third goal came at 15:55.
The Profs took 10 shots and the Violets had seven. Goalie Deana Wood (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) stopped two shots for Rowan. For NYU, Rachael Ross (jr. Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara) played the first half and made two saves. Alex Walters (sr. Babylon, NY/Babylon) turned away three shots in the second period.
