Women's Soccer Shuts Out Richard Stockton, 5-0 and Babice Breaks Two School Records

POMONA, NJ – Forward Jess Babice scored two goals for the Rowan University women’s soccer team in a 5-0 shutout over Richard Stockton College on Wednesday night. It was the Profs’ third straight shutout and sixth on the year.

Babice (sr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) broke the school records for most goals and points in a career. In 45 career games, she has totaled 49 goals and 116 points. The previous marks were 48 goals and 113 points by Stephanie Allocco from 1996-99.

Rowan has an 8-0-1 record and a 4-0 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. This week, the Profs are ranked 11th in the nation and second in the region. Richard Stockton is 4-4-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference.

Forward Veronica Rhea (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) contributed with one goal and one assist. Midfielders Holly Bundy (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and Marina Mangano (so. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) each scored once. Midfielder Christie Fink (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) added an assist.

The Profs accumulated 25 shots while the Ospreys took 11. Goalie Deana Wood (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) made six saves for her fifth shutout. For Richard Stockton, goalies Maria Dorris (so. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and Sarah Hinkle (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Paul VI) played 45 minutes apiece. Dorris stopped three shots and Hinkle had five saves.

Rhea had the first goal at 5:01 on a penalty kick. Babice scored her first goal at 25:49 on a pass from Fink. Bundy’s goal was unassisted with 1:11 remaining in the first half. At 58:15, Babice recorded her record breaking 49th career goal and Rhea assisted. Mangano scored unassisted with 20 seconds left on the clock.

Rowan is on the road again at William Paterson University on Saturday, October 2 at 6 p.m.
