SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams are both in first place after the first day of the Swarthmore Invitational. The men have 294 points, while the women accumulated 221 points.
The men won the 200 yard freestyle (1:26.86) and 400 yard medley (3:35.50) relays. The free relay consisted of Stefan Pietrobono (so. Newark, DE/Brandywine), Jake Scaramazza (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Jerry Capriotti (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Pietrobono, Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tim Dimond (so. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Malone were on the 400 medley relay.
The women’s 400 yard medley relay of Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was first with a pool record time of 4:03.27. The previous mark was 4:05.95. Schneider, Teresa Stearns (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit), Rahter and Briana Baud (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) comprised the fourth place (1:42.29) 200 yard freestyle relay.
Malone and Capriotti finished first (21.48) and second (21.75) respectively in the 50 yard freestyle. Bower was the winner in the 200 yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:02.45. In the 500 yard freestyle, Dimond was second (4:48.21) and Jeff Terrell (so. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) took fifth (4:58.72).
Schneider won the women’s 500 yard freestyle in 5:13.44. Julianne Furdyna (sr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) came in fourth with a time of 5:27.77. Rahter and Winters captured first (2:10.41) and third (2:15.03) respectively in the 200 yard IM.
The two-day meet continues on Saturday, December 4. The morning session begins at 9:30 a.m. and the evening session is at 5 p.m.
