GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University swim teams defeated Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon. The men won 155-106 while the women had a 148-107 victory.

Both Rowan teams are 3-1 on the season. The Misericordia men have a 2-2 record and the women are 2-4 overall.

The Prof women took first place in the 200 yard medley (1:54.33) and the 400 yard freestyle (3:45.41) relays. The medley relay included Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Teresa Stearns (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). Rahter, Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), Stearns and Briana Baud (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) were on the free relay.

On the men’s side, Rowan had a winning time of 3:18.22 in the 400 yard freestyle relay with Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Jake Scaramazza (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Jerry Capriotti (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Tim Dimond (so. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) . The 200 yard medley relay was second in 1:39.99. The medley relay consisted of Stefan Pietrobono (so. Newark, DE/Milford), Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Ryan McNally (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Capriotti.

Winters recorded first places in three individual events. She came in first in the 100 (1:02.26) and 200 (2:13.47) yard backstrokes. She swam a winning time of 2:17.37 in the 200 yard individual medley. The women took first through third place in the 1000 yard freestyle. Julianne Furdyna (sr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) won (11:11.65) while Adrienne Bush (fr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) and Kate Toomer (so. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) were second (11:24.63) and third (11:36.21) respectively.

Schneider won the 200 (2:00.89) and 500 (5:24.61) freestyles and she was second (56.93) in the 100 free. Rahter was the winner in the 100 (1:08.93) and 200 (2:30.25) breaststrokes. O’Gorman took first in the 100 (1:02.03) and 200 (2:16.93) yard butterflies.

In the 50 yard freestyle, Baud finished second (26.04) followed by Stearns third (26.25).
Lauren Grajek (fr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) was second (1:04.30) in the 100 yard backstroke. Charlene Gustafson (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) had a second place (2:03.24) in the 200 free. Abby Grasso (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) took third (2:23.26) in the 200 yard butterfly.

Malone won the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.80) followed by Dimond and Mitch Friedel (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) who were second (1:48.75) and third (1:57.12) respectively. In the 50 free, Malone was first (22.17) while Capriotti was second (22.18). Malone also took first in the 100 yard freestyle (48.18).

Kyle Banks (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Jeff Terrell (so. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) were first (10:41.19) and second (10:50.24) respectively in the 1000 yard freestyle. Banks swam a winning time of 5:04.32 in the 500 yard freestyle. Michael Brooks (sr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Terrell followed second (5:04.51) and third (5:15.28) place respectively. Terrell also took second in the 200 yard butterfly (2:08.94).

Pietrobono had a winning time of 54.87 in the 100 yard backstroke. Dimond finished first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:05.50) and the 100 yard butterfly (55.25). Brian McDermott (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) won the 200 yard butterfly (2:07.90) and he was third (2:07.68) in the 200 yard backstroke.

Bower finished second in the 100 (1:00.80) and 200 (2:19.36) yard breaststrokes. Scaramazza took second (49.61) in the 100 freestyle. Ryan Hennessey (fr. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) had third places in the 100 (56.50) and 200 (2:09.83) yard butterflies. Bradly Hawkins (fr. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) came in third (2:10.94) in the 200 yard individual medley.

The Profs will host the Rowan Cup Races on Saturday, November 20. The first session is at 10:30 a.m. and the second starts at 5 p.m. The invited teams include Swarthmore College, Widener University and York College (PA).
