Messiah Wins 4-0 Over Manhattanville in NCAA Women's Soccer First Round

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Messiah College women’s soccer team won 4-0 over Manhattanville College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The first and second round games are being played at Rowan University.

The Falcons, two-time defending national champion, are undefeated with a 20-0 record. In the second round, Messiah will play Rowan University at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Rowan defeated Stevenson University, 2-0 in the first round.

This is Messiah’s 11th straight appearance in the national tournament. Manhattanville ends the season with a 4-14-3 record. The Valiants received an automatic bid to the national tournament as the champion of the Freedom Conference.

Midfielder Amanda Naeher (sr. Seymourt, CT/Christian Heritage) started the scoring at 6:52. She knocked in a pass from midfielder Alex Brandt (so. Annapolis, MD/University of Central Florida). At 11:05, forward Corinne Wulf (so. Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) made the score 2-0. Forward Joanne Haqq (sr. Beichertown, MA/Belchertown) had a cross from the left side of the box to Wulf who hit the lower right corner.

Haqq had a goal of her own unassisted at 23:42 that ended the first half scoring. Back Alicia Frey (fr. Dillsburg, PA/Northern) scored the final goal at 73:24. Her shot went into the right side of the net.

Messiah compiled 34 shots and goalie Autumn Reilly (jr. Saint Albans, VT/Essex) recorded her 18th shutout on the season. For Mahattanville, goalkeeper Ali Bromson (sr. Suffield, CT/Suffield) made 11 saves.
