William Paterson Tops Rowan, 3-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – The William Paterson University men’s soccer team had a 3-1 victory over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.

The Pioneers are 9-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference. The Profs fall to 3-9-2 overall and they have a 0-5 NJAC mark.

William Paterson went ahead 1-0 when midfielder Matt Nigro (fr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) found the net from the middle of the box at 7:53 in the first period. At 32:32, forward Ambrogio Pipitone (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) kicked the ball into the left side of the goal. Forward Anthony Ferrer (jr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) picked up the assist.

At 60:17 in the second half, Pioneers’ forward Julian Valerio (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) scored on a penalty kick. With 3:50 remaining, Profs’ forward Joe Parella (jr. Howell, NJ/Howell) had a penalty kick that found the left side of the net to make the score, 3-1.

William Paterson took 18 shots, while Rowan had five. Goalkeeper Zach Collins (jr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) was in the Pioneers’ goal for 68:34. Goalkeeper Sam Gerais (jr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) played the final 21:26. For the Profs, goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (sr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made three saves in the first half, while goalkeeper Michael Fanz-Huster (so. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) stopped four shots in the second period.

Rowan hosts Ramapo College on Wednesday, October 13 at 7 p.m.
