Rowan Men's and Women's Swim Teams Beat Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated host Salisbury University on Tuesday night. The men won with a score of 139-114, while the women’s score was 148-105.

The Prof men and women are both 2-1. It was the first meet of the season for the Sea Gulls. The Rowan men took first place in the 200 meter medley (1:54.64) and 400 meter freestyle (3:50.71) relays. The medley relay consisted of Mike Demarest (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami), Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Jerry Capriotti (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Jake Scaramazza (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown). Eric McLaverty (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee), Jeff Terrell (so. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Mitch Friedel (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Kyle Banks (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) were on the freestyle relay.

Bower won the 100 (1:09.36) and 200 (2:38.68) meter breaststrokes and the 200 individual medley (2:24.02). Capriotti captured first place in the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter butterfly with times of 24.54 and 1:02.95 respectively. Banks was the winner in the 400 (4:34.85) and 800 (9:27.69) meter freestyles. Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) finished first in the 100 (54.81) and 200 (2:00.19) meter freestyles. He was second in the 50 meter freestyle (25.03).

In the 200 meter butterfly, Brian McDermott (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) and Richard Del Valle (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) came in first (2:26.16) and third (2:34.74) respectively. McDermott had a second place in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2:24.28. In the 100 meter breaststroke, Dan Choyce (fr. Sicklerville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) captured second (1:16.94) and Kevin Sheridan (jr. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) was third (1:17.37). McLaverty was third in the 100 meter freestyle (58.45).

For the women, the 200 meter medley relay of Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Teresa Stearns (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) won in 2:08.14. Rowan also took first place in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:18.77. The relay was comprised of Stearns, Briana Baud (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and Charlene Gustafson (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton).

Schneider was the winner in the 200 (2:17.35) and 800 (9:49.10) meter freestyles. Rahter came in first in the 100 (1:17.61) and 200 (2:49.14) meter breaststrokes, while Winters won the 100 (1:10.84) and 200 (2:27.25) meter backstrokes. Baud finished first in the 50 (28.87) and 100 (1:03.38) meter freestyles. O’Gorman was first in both the 100 (1:09.16) and 200 (2:34.35) meter butterfly.

Adrienne Bush (fr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) captured first place in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:56.48. Lauren Grajek (fr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) won the 200 meter individual medley in 2:40.64. Abby Grasso (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) took second in the 200 meter butterfly (2:46.68), while Stearns was second in the 50 meter freestyle (29.21). In the 100 meter freestyle, Gustafson and Stearns were second (1:04.31) and third (1:04.80) respectively.

Rowan hosts Misericordia University on Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m.
