EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey women’s soccer team defeated Rowan University, 2-0 in the final conference game of the regular season.
Both of the Lions’ goals were scored by back Brittany McGinley (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford). Her first one came at 28:43. She had a shot from 25 yards out that went into the upper right corner of the Profs’ net. McGinley recorded the second goal at 73:19. It was her fourth on the year.
TCNJ is 14-2-1 overall and 8-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Rowan has a 14-2-1 record with a 7-2 conference mark. This week, the Profs were ranked 19th in the nation and the Lions followed 22nd. In the South Atlantic Region, the two teams were tied for third.
The Lions compiled 28 shots and the Profs took six. Goalie Kendra Griffith (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) made two saves for her 10th shutout. Rowan goalkeeper Deana Wood (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) turned away five shots.
The pairings for the NJAC Championship Tournament will be determined after the final conference games are played on Wednesday, October 27. The first round is scheduled for Saturday, October 30. The semifinals will be held on Wednesday, November 3 and the championship is Saturday, November 6. The top six teams advance to the tournament with the first and second place squads receiving a first round bye.
