GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Montclair State University, 3-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday evening.

The Profs, ranked 13th in the nation, are 10-5 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Red Hawks have an 8-5 record with a 1-1 NJAC mark.

The Profs were ahead 2-0 after the first half. Midfielder Ashley Adams (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) started the scoring at 16:45. Adams’ shot from six yards away went in the right side of the cage. Midfielder Rachael Dix (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) had the assist. At 27:10, midfielder Janna Tighe (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gateway Reg.) had the second goal on a penalty corner. Dix passed to Tighe who had a shot that went in by the right post.

Montclair State spoiled the shutout at 38:58. Forward Deana Hagel (sr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) had the goal with feed from midfielder Melissa Flaherty (sr. Fishkill, NY/John Jay). Flaherty got a rebound and passed to Hagel who was at the left side of the goal. Tighe picked up her second goal on the night at 53:59. Back Lauren Conner (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) had a pass from outside of the circle to Tighe who found the left side of the cage.

Rowan took 11 shots and Montclair State had eight. Profs’ goalie Lisa Apt (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made six saves. For the Red Hawks, goalie Megan Bosland (so. Boonton, NJ/Boonton) stopped five shots.

Next week, Rowan hosts conference opponent William Paterson University on Saturday, October 23 at 1 p.m.
