HOBOKEN, NJ – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s swim teams swept Rowan University on Saturday. The men won, 175.5-86.5, while the women had a 177-85 victory.
The Stevens men improve to 6-0 and the women have a 4-2 record. The Rowan men are 4-3 overall, while the women have a 3-3 mark. The Rowan men finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.49. The team consisted of Matt Marzolf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tim Dimond (fr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Malone, Kevin Sheridan (so. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) and Ryan McNally (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) came in second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.14).
Dimond the 200 freestyle (1:45.69) and took second in the 100 (48.75) and 500 freestyles (4:49.09). Malone had a first place in the 50 (21.93) and 100 freestyles (48.67). In the 100 backstroke, Marzolf and Kyle Mongelluzzo (sr. Newfield, NJ/Delsea Reg.) finished second (58.88) and third (59.18) respectively. Bower came in second in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.18) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.12). Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) took third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.95.
Brian McDermott (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) was third in the 100 (56.01) and 200 butterflies (2:06.67). Kyle Banks (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) placed third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:40.95.
The women’s 200 medley (1:57.26) and 400 freestyle relays (4:00.50) each took second place. The medley relay consisted of Kate Winters (jr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (jr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Lauren Hauser (sr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston). Julie Furdyna (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston), Hauser, Teresa Sterns (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Caroline Lewis (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Woodstown) were on the freestyle relay.
Rahter was the winner in the 100 (1:10.58) and 200 breaststrokes (2:32.68). Rahter also came in second place in the 200 IM (2:17.02), followed by Winters in 2:21.40. Furdyna had a second place in the 200 (2:05.15) and 500 freestyles (5:30.49). Winters captured second place in the 100 (1:04.41) and 200 backstrokes (2:16.78). O’Gorman was second in the 100 (1:03.00) and 200 butterflies (2:23.38). In the 50 freestyle, Hauser came in third place with a time of 26.63. Kym Romano (fr. Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) had a third place in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.81).
