Rowan Comes From Behind To Win 3-2 Over Montclair State

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team came from behind to win 3-2 over Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

The Profs trailed 2-1 going into the second half. Forward Lauren Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) tipped in a shot by back Sam Williams (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) at 60:18 to tie the score. Forward Laura DiMenna (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) recorded the game winner at the 63rd minute. She knocked in a rebound after a shot by midfielder Jenna Lombardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.).

Rowan improves to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. This week, the Profs are ranked 10th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. Montclair State has a 5-3 record with a 0-1 NJAC mark.

Rowan took 14 shots and Montclair State had nine. In the Profs’ goal, Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made four saves. For the Red Hawks, goalie Megan Bosland (fr. Boonton, NJ/Boonton) stopped six shots.

In the first period, forward Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) gave Rowan a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 15:45. Forward Deana Hagel (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) tied it at one (25:00) when she scored on a rebound. Midfielder Melissa Buttray (sr. Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) made the score 2-1 at 26:25 with an assist from midfielder Chelsea Keelen (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.).

Next, Rowan travels to Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, September 30 for a 4 p.m. game.
