Rowan Competes on Final Day of Lions Diving Invitational

EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s diving teams competed on the second day of the Lions Diving Invitational on Saturday. The two-day event was hosted by The College of New Jersey.

On Saturday, Zach Castelli (so. Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) took second place in the one meter diving (11 dives) with 452.5 points, which was better than the NCAA Division III qualifier (425 points). Mark Balesteri (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) came in fourth in the one meter (11 dives) with a NCAA qualifier of 428.4 points. In the one meter (six dives), Castelli was third (274.5 points), while Balesteri had 248.4 points for fifth place. Kyle Bianchini (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) compiled 346.9 (11 dives) and 200.2 points (six dives) in the one meter events.

Sam Rottkamp (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) led the women with a second place finish in the three meter diving (11 dives). She recorded 412.85 points, which surpassed the NCAA qualifier (410 points). She also came in third in the three meter (six dives) with 235.65 points. Kylie O’Rourke (fr. N. Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) registered 151.75 points in the three meter diving (six dives).

On Friday night, Balesteri finished second in the three meter diving (six dives) with 292.05 points, which was better than the NCAA Division III qualifier (285 points). Balesteri was third in the three meter diving (11 dives) with 431.25 points. Castelli took fourth in both three meter diving events with 261.38 (six dives) and 411.5 points (11 dives). Bianchini totaled 204.6 points (six dives) and 376.4 points (11 dives) in the three meter events.

For the women, Rottkamp captured fifth in the one meter diving (11 dives) with 408.2 points, which was better than the NCAA Division III qualifier (255 points). Rottkamp’s total surpassed the school record of 386.95 points that she set in 2009. She came in fourth in the one meter diving (six dives) with 217 points. O’Rourke totaled 140.1 points on the one meter board (six dives).
