GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s basketball team defeated Neumann University, 80-62 in a nonconference game on Friday night.

Rowan improves to 8-2, while Neumann has a 4-4 record. The Profs were led by guard Sean Hughes (jr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) with 21 points and five assists. Forward Tyson Hartnett (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added 15 points and five rebounds. Guard Allen Pritchett (sr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) was also in double figures with 10 points. Center Derek Piccini (sr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) pulled down nine boards. Guard Gary Foster (so. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) contributed with eight points and eight rebounds.

For the Knights, guards Na’Sheed Linton (sr. Trenton, NJ/Solebury Prep) and Marquise Boggs (jr. Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) both recorded 11 points. Linton also had five assists and three steals. Guard Ty Robinson (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) chipped in with 10 points. Forward Sean Armstrong (sr. Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) compiled eight points and five boards.

Rowan was ahead 6-4 at 17:53 in the first half. The Profs went on a 17-2 run over the next 5:21 to lead by 17 points (23-6). Hartnett totaled seven points in the surge. Hughes’ layup at 10:18 made the score, 27-10. Rowan outscored Neumann 12-1 over a 4:16 span for a 28 point advantage (39-11). Six different players each had a basket. Linton nailed a three with three seconds on the clock to cut the deficit to 24 (51-27) at the intermission. Hughes posted 16 first half points and Hartnett had 11. Linton registered nine points for the Knights.

In the second period, Foster’s layup at 6:31 put Rowan up by 22 points (71-49). Neumann had two straight baskets to pull within 18 (71-53) with 5:48 left to play. Guard Kendall White (fr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) hit a jumper at 3:10 to push the lead to 23 points (78-55). Knights’ guard Malick Pack (fr. Baltimore, MD/City College) made a three-pointer (1:30) and forward Jared Poindexter (so. Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) sank two foul shots (00:35) to come within 18 (78-60). The teams each had a basket to end the game.

Rowan travels to Neumann for the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Tuesday-Wednesday, January 5-6. Rowan plays Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Profs face Valley Forge Christian College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
