GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s swimming and diving team won 172-128 over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 4-2 overall and the Mariners are 0-1. Rowan took first in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.76. The medley relay included Stefan Pietrobono (fr. Newark, DE/Brandywine), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tim Dimond (fr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). The 400 yard freestyle relay came in second (3:15.51) with Malone, Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Pietrobono and Kevin Sheridan (so. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick).
Dimond was the winner in the 200 (1:45.50) and 500 (4:54.46) yard freestyles. Bower won the 100 (58.61) and 200 (2:14.04) yard breaststrokes. He also came in first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:00.72) and Dimond was second (2:01.74). Malone took first place in the 50 (21.99) and 100 (47.18) yard freestyles.
Brian McDermott (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) was first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:00.18). In the 100 yard butterfly, McDermott was the winner (53.73) followed by Tucker second (54.52). Pietrobono came in second in the 100 yard backstroke (55.63). Kyle Banks (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) finished second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:21.86).
In the 200 yard butterfly, McDermott and Tucker were second (1:59.85) and third (2:02.37) respectively. Sheridan finished third in the 100 (49.73) and 200 (1:50.65) yard freestyles. Matt Marzolf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had a third place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:05.28).
In the diving, Mark Balesteri (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) took second on the one meter (239.85) and three meter (262.05) boards. In the one meter diving, Zach Castelli (so. Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) was third (235.13) and Kyle Bianchini (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) finished fourth (194.03). Castelli had a third place (237.15) in the three meter diving and Bianchini was fourth (180.98).
During the semester break, Rowan will travel to Ft. Lauderdale, FL for training from Sunday, January 3 through Sunday, January 10.
