NEW YORK, NY – The New York University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Rowan University on Saturday. The NYU men had a 174-126 victory and the women won 228-71.

The Violet men improve to 4-1 overall while the women are undefeated with a 5-0 mark. The Prof men and women both are 2-2 on the season.

Rowan won the men’s 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.48. The medley relay included Matt Marzolf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Stefan Pietrobono (fr. Newark, DE/Brandywine). The 400 yard freestyle took second in 3:22.14 with Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Kevin Sheridan (so. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick), Michael Brooks (jr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Pietrobono.

Pietrobono won the 100 backstroke in 55.90 and Marzolf took second (57.62). Marzolf had a first place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.25) and Brian McDermott (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) was second (2:06.49). Kyle Banks (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) finished second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:47.03). Malone had a second place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:53.50) followed by Brooks and Sheridan who were third (1:54.09) and fourth (1:55.42) respectively. Malone also took second in the 100 free (49.35) and he was third in the 500 yard freestyle (5:15.71).

Pietrobono and Sheridan were third (50.36) and fourth (50.93) respectively in the 100 yard freestyle. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Bower took second (1:02.54) followed by Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) third (1:06.67). Tucker finished second in the 100 yard butterfly (56.17) and he had a third place in the 50 yard freestyle (23.12). Bower was third in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:26.22).

In the men’s three meter diving, Zach Castelli (so. Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) came in second (269.59) followed by Mark Balesteri (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) third (243.76). Balesteri finished second in the one meter diving (252.00) and Castelli was third (213.75). Sam Rottkamp (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) took second place in the women’s three meter diving with 240.60 points. She finished third on the one meter board (193.50).

Stacey Rahter (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.07 and Ashley Gagnon (sr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) was third (1:12.04). Rahter also had a second place in the 100 yard freestyle (56.88) and the 200 individual medley (2:16.24). Kate Winters (jr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) was the winner in the 200 yard backstroke (2:13.54) and she took third place in the 100 backstroke (1:02.55). Gagnon finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:37.66). Anne O’Gorman (jr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) came in third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.93).

Rowan is on the road next week at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday, November 14 at 1 p.m.
