Montclair State Beats Rowan, 1-0 to Win NJAC Title

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Montclair State University men’s soccer team defeated Rowan University, 1-0 in the final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday night.

The top seed in the conference tournament, Montclair State (17-1-2) earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. It is the Red Hawk’s fourth straight NJAC title. The third seed Rowan (13-6-2) must wait until Monday, November 9 to see if it receives an at-large bid to the national tournament.

Back William Griffin (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/St. Peters Prep) scored Montclair State’s only goal at 15:53 in the first period. Midfielder Mike Krol (jr. Howell, NJ/Howell) threw the ball in bounds and Griffin headed it into the net.

The Red Hawks took 15 shots, while the Profs had nine. Goalkeeper Teddy Ritter (sr. Belford, NJ/Middletown N.) made six saves for Montclair State. Rowan goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) stopped five shots.
