GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s basketball team won 64-49 over nonconference opponent Immaculata University on Tuesday night.
Forward Tyson Harnett (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) led the Profs with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Sean Hughes (jr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro8) contributed with nine points. Forward Gary Foster (so. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) came off the bench and grabbed 11 boards. He also scored eight points.
Rowan has a 3-1 record and Immaculata drops to 1-3 on the season. For the Mighty Macs, guard Robert Siter (so. Yeadon, PA/Bonner) totaled 13 points and eight rebounds. Forward Jeff DeSantis (sr. Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) registered 11 points and six boards.
The first half ended with Rowan ahead 32-18. The score was tied at three (17:09) then the Profs had 11 straight points to lead by 11 (14-3) at 10:47. Guard Laud Anderson (jr. N. Brunswick, NJ/N. Brunswick) scored two baskets, Hughes hit a three-pointer while Hartnett and Foster each had two points. With 3:10 remaining, Hughes’ layup made the score 28-14. Foster hit two foul shots at 2:40 for a 16 point advantage (30-14). Hartnett ended the period with 11 points.
In the second half, guard Kendall White (fr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) gave the Profs a 15 point lead (42-27) with a basket at 15:27. White’s jumper at 11:42 put Rowan up 46-31. Immaculata answered with a 7-1 run to trail by nine points (47-38) at the nine minute mark. Forward Kendall Peters (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored five points and DeSantis added two.
Rowan went back up by 17 points (58-41) with an 11-3 surge in a 3:52 span. Hartnett led the way with four points followed by guard A.J. Greenwald (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) with three and forward Matt DeSouza (so. Margate, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Foster had two apiece. With 3:30 remaining, Siter hit a jumper and the Mighty Macs were down by 10 (58-48). Rowan ended the game with a 6-1 run. Foster had a layup (2:05) followed by Greenwald (1:39) and Hughes (00:52) each with two free throws.
Rowan is home again on Monday, November 30 against Alvernia University at 7 p.m.
