GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams swept conference opponent Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon. The men won 154.5-107.5 and the women had a 155-93 victory.

The Rowan men and women both improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Ramapo men have a 2-2 record with a 1-2 conference mark. The Ramapo women are 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.

The Prof men had second places in the 200 yard medley (1:40.13) and 400 yard freestyle (3:20.00) relays. The medley relay members were Stefan Pietrobono (fr. Newark, DE/Brandywine), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Michael Brooks (jr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit). Pietrobono, Tucker, Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Tim Dimond (fr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) were on the free relay.

In the individual events, Rowan’s Kyle Banks (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) took first in the 1000 (10:38.09) and 500 yard (5:08.48) freestyles. Malone was the winner in the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.41) followed by Brooks second (1:50.64). In the 50 free, Malone swam a time of 22.33 for first place and he took first in the 100 yard freestyle (49.49). Bower was the winner in the 100 (1:01.87) and 200 yard (2:19.85) breaststrokes.

In the 200 yard butterfly, Dimond and Brian McDermott (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) were first (2:04.73) and second (2:07.98) respectively. Dimond also won the 100 yard butterfly (55.33) followed by Tucker second (55.68). McDermott came in second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.08). Pietrobono finished second in the 100 backstroke (56.17). In the 200 yard individual medley, Bower and Dimond were second (2:06.45) and third (2:08.59) respectively.

The Ramapo men came in first in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.50. The medley relay consisted of Stephen Fox (so. Freehold Twp., NJ/Freehold Twp.), David Nehls (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills), Terry Hubert (so. Howell, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Peter Polgar (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills). The Roadrunners also took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:18.78) with Geoff Richter (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.), Mike Waterhouse (so. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.), Polgar and Frank Patierno (fr. Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes).

Fox won the 100 (53.31) and 200 yard (2:00.28) backstrokes and the 200 yard individual medley (2:04.15). Richter came in second in the 1000 (10:45.97) and 500 yard (5:10.63) freestyles. Nehls finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.21). Polgar and Hubert were second (22.62) and third (22.96) respectively in the 50 yard freestyle. Patierno had a second place in the 100 yard freestyle (50.06). Robert Stein (fr. Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) was second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:20.51).

The Rowan women took first place in the 200 yard medley relay in 1:54.93 with the team of Kate Winters (jr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Ashley Gagnon (sr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy), Stacey Rahter (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Teresa Stearns (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). They also won the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:51.67. The relay included Winters, Rahter, Stearns and Caroline Lewis (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Woodstown).

Julie Furdyna (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was the winner in the 1000 (11:19.65), 500 (5:32.95) and 200 yard freestyles (2:06.40). In the 100 yard breaststroke, Rahter and Gagnon were first (1:09.52) and second (1:10.63) respectively. Gagnon came in first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:34.99) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:21.14).

Anne O’Gorman (jr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) won the 200 yard butterfly (2:21.66) and Winters followed second (2:23.42). O’Gorman also came in first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.80). Hauser took first in the 50 yard freestyle (26.19) while Rahter won the 100 yard free (56.83). Winters took first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.44). Steph McAllister (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was second (1:05.27) in the 100 yard backstroke.

For the Ramapo women, Brenda Slazyk (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) took first place (1:03.50) in the 100 yard backstroke. She was second in the 50 (26.23) and 100 yard (57.28) freestyles. Bethany Wozniak (jr. Bayville, NJ/Central) finished second in the 1000 (12:02.32) and 500 yard (5:51.87) freestyles. Lauren Morgan (fr. Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) took second in the 200 freestyle (2:07.00), 200 yard backstroke (2:22.49) and 200 yard individual medley (2:21.19). Jenny Lo (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) was second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:38.41) and Alaina Lombardi (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) finished second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:11.31).

Rowan will travel to Lancaster, PA for the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6. The first session is at 9 a.m. on Saturday and the second starts at 6 p.m. The third session on Sunday is scheduled for 10 a.m.
