Rowan Routs Delaware Valley, 7-0

DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated Delaware Valley College, 7-0 in a nonconference game on Thursday night.

Rowan is 9-1-1 and has won its last six games. Delaware Valley has a 0-8 record. The Profs are tied for ninth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III National Rankings. Rowan is first in the South Atlantic Region.

The Profs went ahead 1-0 at 5:55 on a goal by midfielder Nina Fragoso (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.). Midfielder Christie Fink (so. Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) picked up the assist. At 22:51, forward Veronica Rhea’s (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) unassisted goal made the score, 2-0.

Forward Jess Babice (jr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) added goals at 48:44 and 49:14 in the second half. Fink assisted on both goals. Babice has a team-high 14 goals this season. Midfielder Melanie Wittenberger (fr. Tabernacle, NJ/Seneca) found the net at 51:20 with an assist from Rhea. Just under three minutes later, Wittenberger scored again and Rhea and Verzi both recorded an assist. With 1:50 remaining, midfielder Marina Mangano (fr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) had her first goal of the year.

Rowan took 36 shots, while Delaware Valley had three. Profs’ goalkeeper Jillian Brannan (so. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) made two saves in 70:38 and Kate Harman (sr. Laurel Springs, NJ/Sterling) stopped one shot in the final 19:22. Goalkeeper Elizabeth McQuillan (fr. Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) turned away 17 shots in the Aggies’ net.

Rowan hosts Moravian College on Saturday, October 10 at 1 p.m.
