GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to Division I Drexel University on Saturday. The Dragon men won 140.5-101.5 and the women had a 150-89 victory.
It was the first loss (2-1) of the season for both of the Prof men’s and women’s teams. The Drexel men and women each have a 2-2 record.
The Rowan men finished second in the 200 yard medley (1:42.33) and 400 yard freestyle (3:18.63) relays. The medley relay consisted of Matt Marzolf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Stefan Pietrobono (fr. Newark, DE/Brandywine). Michael Brooks (jr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit), Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Tim Dimond (fr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Tucker were on the free relay.
The Rowan women came in second in the 200 yard medley (1:56.46) and third in the 400 yard freestyle (3:55.67). Kate Winters (jr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Ashley Gagnon (sr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy), Megg McCourt (sr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Lauren Hauser (sr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) were on the medley relay. The freestyle relay members were Jackie Heide (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic), Teresa Stearns (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit), Hauser and McCourt.
Pietrobono won the 50 yard freestyle (22.94) while Ryan McNalley (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Tucker were second (23.17) and third (23.31) respectively. Kyle Banks (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) came in second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:39.78). In the 200 yard freestyle, Malone was second (1:50.32) followed by Brooks third (1:51.16). Malone also took second in the 100 yard freestyle (48.94). Marzolf finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (57.78). Dimond was second in the 500 yard freestyle (4:50.34). In the 100 yard breaststroke, Bower and Sean McCarthy (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) were second (1:03.40) and third (1:07.74) respectively and Sean Downey (sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) followed fourth (1:08.40).
In diving, Mark Balestri (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) won the three meter diving (249.15) and took third in the one meter (193.87). Zach Castelli (so. Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) had second places on the one (200.70) and three (219.30) boards. For the women, Sam Rottkamp (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) finished second in the one (193.95) and three (195.45) meter diving.
Rahter won the 200 yard individual medley (2:15.28) and Gagnon was second (2:21.41). In the 100 yard breaststroke, Rahter was the winner (1:10.09) and Gagnon was third (1:11.74). Rahter was also third (57.21) in the 100 yard freestyle. Winters finished second in the 200 yard free (2:01.94) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.46). Julie Furdyna (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was second in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:30.63) and Kate Toomer (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) followed third (11:42.70). Furdyna also had a third place in the 500 yard freestyle (5:37.15). Anne O’Gorman (jr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) took second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.74). Hauser had a third place in the 50 free (26.29).
Next week, Rowan travels to New York University on Saturday, November 7 for a 1 p.m. meet.
